Dudley
Dudley was an 9-year-old male (neutered) Labrador Retriever. He had emergency surgery in October to remove a bleeding tumor of the spleen. Dudley was in surgery for almost two hours and required a blood transfusion. Tumors of the spleen are somewhat common in middle-aged and older large breed dogs. They can be benign or malignant, and sometime fatal. They can also spread to other parts of the body. Dudley passed away in August after eight high-quality months with his human & canine companions. We will all miss him very much. Chloe, the Yorkie that ate the BBQ grill!
Chloe is an 11-year-old female (spayed) Yorkshire Terrier. She lives with her canine sister, Lexi, another Yorkie, and her human family. While Lexi is prone to some GI issues, Chloe is not. Chloe came in one day for vomiting, which is very unusual for her. Her owner brought some of the items that Chloe had vomitied - multiple small, brittle, flat objects. A radiograph (x-ray) was taken and metallic foreign bodies were observed throughout her intestinal tract! She was treated with an anti-emetic (medicine for vomiting) and intravenous fluids. We also recommended frequent small meals with metamucil to help the objects pass. Through very clever deduction, Chloe's owner finally figured out that she had attempted to eat the greasy, rusted-out portion of their BBQ grill in the backyard! Chloe was monitored with serial radiographs and it took over a week for her to pass all the little pieces, but she was no longer vomiting and she has made a full recovery. |
